Cosmetics Testing

SAMBA Hair System
samba1

SAMBA Hair System – is a unique tool to analyze the visual appearance of hair. It is now widely used in the cosmetic industry to substantiate claims and evaluate products efficacy such as shampoo, conditioners, shine sprays, etc., on every type of hair.

SAMBA Hair System comes as a turn-key system including hardware and computer with dedicated software. The hair samples are positioned on a cylindrical mount that slides inside the instrument. The cover allows in-vitro and in-vivo measurements in a regular laboratory environment.

User-Friendly software allows the user to acquire the measurement in one click. A complete analysis (numerical data, angular profiles and images) of the visual characteristics (lustre, colour, images, angular profile, etc.) of the hair tress is delivered in seconds. Numerical data (lustre, etc.), angular profiles and images can be quickly compared and exported for reports, presentations or post-processing.

RUMBA
rumba

RUMBA is a unique tool dedicated to the IN-VIVO measurement of the orientation of hair fibres. The measurement can be made on hair tresses or directly on a consumer’s head, thanks to an acquisition time of less than 1s. RUMBA works for any type of hair, from straight to curly and black to blond/white. Statistics about the distribution of the hair fibre orientation (mean angle, standard deviation, …) in a Region Of Interest (ROI) is simply done. Thanks to the polarization signature of the hair fibre, it is also easy to extract the hair fibre from the background, allowing area and volume calculation.

RUMBA acquires multiple polarization images in less than 1s. After processing, an orientation image where each pixel of the image represents the local angle of the fibre is delivered. The angle information is colour coded.

RUMBA delivers both images and numerical data for claim substantiation. Applications include product efficacy assessment of shampoo, conditioner, anti-curl, anti-frizz, relaxer, styling, smoothing and keratin hair treatment, etc.

MAMBO
mambo

MAMBO – is a handheld sensor. Connected to a computer, its dedicated software allows immediate hair colour identification. Just place mambo on the swatch to be measured to automatically identify its colour. MAMBO delivers the closest colour match in the database. No adjustments are necessary for the operator as MAMBO will automatically configure itself for optimum measurement. MAMBO is self-calibrated and does not need any additional calibration.

Professional colourists do not measure hair colour in a scientific manner i.e. with L,a,b value and CIELAB references but compare it to a hair colour catalogue (database). MAMBO is a sensor mimicking expert professional colourist. MAMBO can be used on hair swatches or directly on the model head.

Applications of MAMBO range from in-vivo colour identification in the professional salon to a formulation and colour quality testing on hair swatches during R&D and manufacturing.
